Approaching 70 with age and
arthritis related mobility issues, I decided to try a
Pilates class and came along to Club-K in Hextable in January.
The classes are small,
friendly and Luke makes them fun. He is encouraging and
explains things clearly, so I am able to repeat some of the
exercises at home too. A few weeks in I was already seeing
the benefits in improved posture, strength and flexibility.
Now I can get up off the floor unaided and touch my toes
again. I even managed a couple of hours on the dance floor
at the recent Swanley Rugby Club Ball!

At Club-K we run two
types of Pilates classes.
A traditional Mat

Pilates at Club-K in Hextable,
Kent
£15 a class or part of a
membership.
Pilates was developed by German
born Joseph Pilate, Who believed that mental and physical health were
closely related.
Pilates immigrated to the US in
the 1920's and with wife Clara opened a studio in New York where he
taught his method Contrology for several decades.
Pilates aims to strengthen the
body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to
improve general fitness and wellbeing.
Focusing on the 6 fundamentals of
Pilates (Control, Concentration, Centering, Breathing, Flow and
Precision) exercises are timed with your breath so you move at your own
pace.
Pilates exercises are
sequenced so that most people can increase strength and flexibility in a
way that is suitable for where their fitness levels are today.
Pilates is often advised by
Doctors, Physiotherapists and Osteopaths because of the focus on spinal
alignment and support.
Due to the controlled nature of
the class it is great for beginners as you work at your own speed and
level.
Each course is limited to 12 people, this
small group allows attention to precision and attention for questions.

of anatomy and common back issues including sciatica and non specific low back pain
and offers strategies to help relieve pain, strengthen and stretch the
muscles.
It also introduces Self
Myofascial Release using Foam rollers and balls.
Due to the slower nature of this class It
is also a great intro for nervous beginners to Pilates!
